Can anyone tell me the point in Studio Ghibli. All these films have great animation but twisted stories. They just annoy me.
Take for instance Spirited Away. This was an okay story. Some random animation and no conclusions and almost identical in story to the Wizard of Oz.
Please explain to me why everyone thinks this studio is so brilliant!

Hey. I didn't know you had a forum here.
I'm with you with this one Hangman. Studio Ghibli has to be the biggest waste of time in my life to date. I have suffered through three of these films and they just don't go anywhere. Spirited Away, the cat bus one and Kiki's delivery service. All overated garbage. A CAT BUS? WHAT?? Why is this trippy animation considered groundbreaking?

Don't think I can say anymore to this thread. I despise these films for being loved so much. I can see the references to Wizard of Oz (for Spirited Away) Hangman. Good comparison.
I personally feel that they are a bit nigthmare-ish for my liking. Perhaps I'm being harsh, or perhaps that is the point. Either way, I have no time for them

I totally disagree, i think you are all lacking in imagination, think back to your childhood when you wanted to believe in father Christmas or fairies. What is so wrong with a cat bus, i think it ingenious and very creative. Do you want to keep seeing the same crap all the time, for example Disney films that always seem to be about love, prince charming, and happy ever afters (yuck, gets on my wick).
For the comment that the films have no conclusion, just because they don't hit you in the face with a wet kipper and tell you everything like we are all muppets is a good thing, you make your own conclusions. I think you should watch them again in a different light and not take them so seriously.

Lacking in imagination? I don't think so. The fact that I have seen these films (albeit at the suggestion of my girlfriend) shows that I am my imagination is wide open.
I just feel that there is nothing new in Studio Ghibli. Its as if they can release two hours worth of random dialogue and animation, then call it a film. There is a difference between using your imagination and being on an acid trip.

I am here to explain why studio ghibli is so amazingly brilliant.
Not only is the animation beautifully done, the story lines are inspirational in the fuzzy feeling sense, sad that i like this but why shouldnt i. In a world that seems to concentrate on power, violence and hate it brings to me a welcome breath of fresh air.
when i feel down i watch them.
Each to there own but for me Studio Ghibli will always be magical.
